Windy Day In Provence

50x60 cm, oil paint on canvas This painting is a plein air sketch. It was painted by me in Provence, France. It was a very windy day and the wind even dropped my sketchbook! I sat under the canopy of a huge oak tree that cast a carved shadow and sketched the surroundings. I was drawn to the landscape with the road and the terracotta roofs of the surrounding houses. The lavender fields were a beautiful contrast and color complement to the blue of the distant mountains. Using impressionistic brushstrokes and bold oil paints, I express the gentle fluctuations of the landscape. The path takes the viewer through a spectrum of bright colors and dynamic shapes, nestled between lofty mountain ranges and blooming lavender field.
